Julia Laws spent her formative years on Fidalgo Island amidst a DIY music scene. Laws developed a evocative musical style influenced by her Pacific Northwest surroundings before relocating to Los Angeles. After working at local venues and producing her own material, she released Ronboy's debut single in 2019 and the 'Velvet' EP in 2020. Her work caught the attention of Matt Berninger from The National, who subsequently invited her to record and perform during his solo album promotion.
