Patricia Kopatchinskaja, a violinist with a cult following known for her imaginative and daring performances, joins the London Philharmonic Orchestra to explore Shostakovich's powerful post-war Second Violin Concerto. Under the baton of Edward Gardner, the programme also features Rachmaninov's volcanic First Symphony, a work that captures the intense energy of a young composer testing his creative limits. The evening begins with a rarely-heard early gem by Rachmaninov, setting the stage for a concert of thrilling extremes.
