This ball marks the start of the Tall Ships Race, bringing together majestic sailing vessels from around the world. Historically, maritime trade fueled Bordeaux's growth and the rise of a social scene fond of grand entertainments. At the Grand-Théâtre, people once gathered to learn the Belle Époque dances imported from Europe's major capitals. Today, the dancers of the Ballet de l'Opéra National de Bordeaux act as guides, passing on the art of partner dancing. Participants can even enhance their outfits with costume pieces provided from the Opera's collections.
