Tarawangsawelas is an innovative contemporary Sundanese ensemble and multi-instrumentalist project originating from West Java, Indonesia. Rooted in traditional arts, the group explores Sundanese cosmology and local social dynamics through performances that update traditional music centered on the Tarawangsa, Suling, Kacapi, and vocal performances with modern live pedals and electronic manipulation. Since 2017, the ensemble has performed across 29 cities in 12 European and Asian countries, including an appearance at the 2019 CTM Festival. Their multi-disciplinary work includes contributing music to the Indonesian Steam game Dreadout (Act 2) (2015), live scoring for Garin Nugroho's silent film Setan Jawa in Tokyo (2019), and producing film scores with Azah Sastra for Sunrise In The Forest (2019)—which garnered nominations at the Austin and Sundance Film Festivals—and the Dutch short film Scent of Time (2021).
