Aşina – O – The Third Voice
Queer, αργή βραδιά contemporary classical
Konzerthaus Berlin, Gendarmenmarkt 2, 10117 Berlin, Germany
In a performance defined by transformation and resistance, Anthony Hüseyin combines original contemporary songs and lyrics with baroque arias and the music of Zeki Müren, the "sun" of Turkish art music. David Bergmüller's genre-defying lute arrangements provide the sonic foundation for Hüseyin's expanded vocal work. Using live technology, the duo deconstructs traditional roles to form a "third voice" that celebrates queer joy and the fluidity of identity. Part of the new series "Unerwartet vertraut – aşina," which takes its name from a Persian word for something familiar yet not fully known—a sense of closeness requiring no explanation. This concert series represents a new way of listening that recognizes the familiar within the supposedly foreign. Aşina connects people through shared sensations rather than a single culture, bringing internationally renowned musicians to Berlin to explore traditional heritages, urban scenes, and musical expressions rarely heard in classical concert halls.
