Roulette co-founder Jim Staley returns to the stage with long-running collaborators Ikue Mori and Zeena Parkins for an evening of improvisation. Jim Staley is a trombonist and composer who has shaped the experimental music scene in New York City since the late 1970s. His work focuses on improvisation, bridging gaps between post-modern classical and avant-garde jazz. He has worked extensively with a wide range of performers across music and dance. Ikue Mori moved from Tokyo to New York in 1977, originally playing drums in the no-wave group DNA. Over several decades, she transitioned to using drum machines and later laptop computers to create complex sonic and visual works, earning recognition as a MacArthur Fellow. Zeena Parkins is an electro-acoustic composer and a pioneer of contemporary harp techniques. By utilizing electronic processing and self-designed electric instruments, she has redefined the capabilities of the harp. Her work spans composition, improvisation, and performance for dance.
