Vieux Farka Touré, often called the “Hendrix of the Sahara,” is a Malian guitar virtuoso and the son of the legendary Ali Farka Touré. Originally a drummer, Vieux transitioned to guitar in 2001 and has since released a series of acclaimed albums that blend traditional West African music with rock, Latin, and blues influences. His work includes notable collaborations with artists like Toumani Diabaté, Dave Matthews, and the psychedelic-rock trio Khruangbin on the 2022 tribute album 'Ali'. Beyond his music, Vieux is a dedicated humanitarian, founding the charity Amahrec Sahel and directing the Ali Farka Touré Foundation to preserve Mali's cultural heritage. He is joined by Gitkin, the musical project of producer Brian J Gitkin. Based in New Orleans, Gitkin crafts instrumental music that draws from dub, surf guitar, and global funk. His latest work, 'Where the South Winds Wail', explores atmospheric narratives influenced by the diverse cultural spirit of New Orleans and his collaborative history with artists like Cedric Burnside and the Pimps Of Joytime.
