The Breeders were formed in 1990 by Kim Deal and Tanya Donelly as a creative outlet outside of their primary bands. Their debut album Pod gained critical acclaim, but it was 1993's platinum-selling Last Splash and the hit single "Cannonball" that made them alternative rock icons. Over the decades, the band has explored a range of influences from country and surf to reggae and experimental pop. Following a long hiatus and several lineup shifts, the original Last Splash lineup reunited for the 2018 album All Nerve and continues to influence the alternative music scene.
