Balkan Christmas Night

In Romania, Christmas (Colinde) and New Year songs wish for health and prosperity, seeking reconciliation with ancestors or telling stories of deep connection with nature. Oana Cǎtǎlina Chiţu brings a crystalline magic to these songs through her jazz-influenced interpretations, leading an acoustic journey into the snowy Carpathian mountains. She is joined by the Jovanovic Trio, led by accordion virtuoso Dejan Jovanovic, to approach her homeland's carols with an authentic yet free spirit. Chiţu is known for her soulful interpretations of Romanian folk singer Maria Tănase's repertoire and her albums 'Divine' and 'Bucharest Tango'. Dejan Jovanovic, an acclaimed accordionist and composer based in Berlin, brings his masterful play and compositions to this unique project, which also features the expressive music of Vladimir Karparov, known for fusing contemporary jazz with the folk rhythms of Bulgaria.
