Lila Downs

Rooted in Oaxaca and shaped between Mexico and the US, Lila Downs weaves Mexican tradition with jazz, cumbia, folk, and contemporary rhythms. Her music is both celebration and conscience, turning each concert into an intimate and fearless gathering where culture is honored and stories are reclaimed. Recognized with multiple Grammy Awards, Downs' art remains grounded in dignity, beauty, and the human spirit. Born in Tlaxiaco, Mexico, Downs spent her childhood in Oaxaca learning traditional rancheras before moving to California to study classical and opera. After a period of exploration following the Grateful Dead, she pursued anthropology and voice, eventually launching a career that blends traditional Mexican music with socially conscious messages and contemporary sounds. Her international success has been cemented by albums such as 'Pecados y milagros' and 'Balas y Chocolate'.
