Formed in 2021 by Iranian composer and multi-instrumentalist Ashkan Layegh, Phemo Quartet aims to broaden the spectrum of live-action interplay through highly-detailed scores. The band features some of the UK’s most progressive instrumentalists and recently won second prize at the 16th European Young Artists’ Jazz Award. For this concert, celebrating the release of their debut album ‘Anti-Revelation’, the quartet is joined by German pianist and composer Johanna Summer. Known for her open and flexible playing style, Summer integrates classical music into improvised contexts. Her work ranges from Bach to Ligeti, creating a continuing narrative that has earned her nominations for the German Jazz Prize.
