The Mingus Big Band exclusively performs the compositions of the renowned American bassist and composer Charles Mingus. Established by Sue Mingus, this 14-piece ensemble brings to life large-band arrangements that Mingus envisioned but could not always realize. The group’s structure promotes artistic exploration and evolving interpretations of his work, much like Mingus’s own Jazz Workshop. Featuring a rotating cast of New York City’s top jazz talent, the band is celebrated for its spontaneous and creative performances, earning multiple Grammy nominations and a win for Live at Jazz Standard. Their residency continues the legacy of Mingus Mondays.
