Wassoulou is a vibrant musical genre originating from the Wassoulou region in West Africa, spanning parts of Mali, Guinea, and the Ivory Coast. The sound is characterized by a distinctive pentatonic scale and the rhythmic drive of the kamale ngoni, a six-stringed youth harp, accompanied by the metallic pulse of the karinyan scraper.
