Boogie-woogie is a percussive style of blues piano that became globally popular during the late 1920s, characterized by its driving "eight-to-the-bar" rhythmic feel. Originating in African American communities during the late 19th century, it evolved from solo barrelhouse piano into a high-energy dance music that fundamentally influenced the development of jump blues and early rock and roll. The primary instrumentation centers on the piano, where the left hand maintains a repetitive, syncopated bass pattern against the right hand's melodic improvisations. Its brisk tempo and rhythmic intensity create an infectious, celebratory mood that transitioned from intimate house parties to large-scale orchestral arrangements.
