Lithuanian Folk εκδηλώσεις στην πόλη Βίλνιους

Lithuanian folk music, or Lietuvių liaudies muzika, originates from ancient Baltic agrarian traditions and ritual practices deeply connected to nature and ancestral cycles. Central to the genre are Sutartinės, which are unique polyphonic songs characterized by overlapping melodies and intentional dissonant intervals, typically performed by female ensembles. Common instrumentation includes the kanklės zither, skudučiai panpipes, and birbynė reed pipes, which provide a distinctive timbral palette that is fundamentally organic and acoustic. The mood varies from hauntingly melancholic laments to rhythmically hypnotic chants, serving as a foundational cultural pillar that significantly influences contemporary Baltic neofolk, world music, and modern experimental compositions.
