Yes, it's full of stereotypes but I was pleasantly surprised by how funny I found this. The gag rate on the intertitles, at least in the first half, is ridiculous - although the one that made me laugh the most is one that I'm not sure I should be laughing at or not. If you know, you know.
A light and breezy comedy where most of the obstacles are easily overcome. I do start to care some for these characters during their hardships. I appreciate the dual storyline of will-they-won't-they relationships. The mature couple is much more interesting than the younger one, as it feels more is at stake there. It feels more real.The movie is pretty good at switching tone between loud, corny comedy and more somber stuff. A good example is when Goodman himself realizes that the theft in fact isn’t an April fool’s joke and immediately tries to convince the young couple that it is. He realizes that sort of mid-joke, which the movie handled well. But generally, there is more of the corny stuff.The comedy content has aged some, but this is still enjoyable as a warm comedy and not just as a curiosity. It made me laugh for real a couple of times. Snitz Edwards is a great villain and a highlight.Pleasant piano by Meg Morley.
