Not that much happened really. I can understand it's a character piece more so than a murder (or not?) mystery, but I felt like both the mystery at its core wasn't that interesting and the central character, Depardieu, also fell flat for me. Depardieu is good in the role and I wasn't sure where his family drama was going but it didn't really feel central for the narrative or the character, although the revelation in the conclusion did make more sense for his family drama with his brother. The mystery was also decent for a while, felt like a Simenon story at times, but it didn't lead to much. Overall, I think this is a decent, well-directed but in the end kinda boring movie, a shame it was the last of Chabrol.Films I Watched in 2026 Ranked
