While I'm still on my little Joseph Kuo kick, I was happy to find him joining forces with Yuen Woo-Ping, one of the all time great Hong Kong action directors & choreographers. This is another banger by Kuo with some excellent wuxia action and his trademark oddball martial arts styles on display. Carter Wong gets to play a white-haired villain with a shrill voice and an evil laugh and it's always good to have Lo Lieh and Corey Yuen around.I have yet to see a bad Joseph Kuo movie.

Quite possibly the most quintessential kung fu movie when it comes to what the general consensus of what they are that has permeated the cultural osmosis of cinematic influence.Long white-haired and giant eye-browed villain with an unbeatable style. Who also likes to laugh maniacally. A plot of revenge that is mostly just a cavalcade of fights and training montages. Unique weapons and/or styles from every fighter. Masters and students imparting lessons on both martial arts and honour. And when it comes to the craft: the only current print being poorly framed and dubbed in the most hilarious mismatch of tones to the characters and action onscreen. It may not be the worst dub of all time, but its certainly one of the funniest, as its only a shuffle away from feeling like a lost prequel to Kung Pow.This doesn’t matter much, as all the speaking (i.e. the plot) doesn’t matter as this is a full-on fightfest. Which mostly consists of Carter Wong beating the piss out of people with his hands, legs and head...after Lo Lieh is finally done doing the same with his bladed tonfa. I never could get a handle on the heroes and even lost track of who was who, but even the lady character got some brief bouts of swift sword action so its never boring even if character engagement begins and ends at Carter Wong’s eyebrows. This is the Yuen Woo-Ping show, through and through. The opening two-on-one fight is as amazing as most kung fu finales, and every subsequent fight thrills and delights even as the same fighters engage in combat again and again.🤜🤛The Yen & the Yuen: Innovation of Action by Yuen Woo Ping and Donnie Yen------------------------TODAY-Demon's Kiss/Kiss Me If You Dare-Truth or DareThe Secret of Dorian GrayBroken Oath-Born Invincible

The entire plot can be clearly explained in a paragraph so just know the dialogue scenes are there to tie together the pretty darn good fight scenes. At a glance I recognize Carter Wong from Big Trouble in Little China and Hapkido as long white haired bad guy who is another in a long line of invulnerable bad guys with long white hair, sometimes with a long mustache. Lo Lieh is the other bad guy, this one with a tricky weapon breaks others swords when they attack it in a certain configuration. The good guys are just some martial arts school students who objected to two thugs beating up an old man. That set off a chain of events that lead to the deaths of like 8 people and the permanent damage to at least 2 others. This is a movie you are watching for the extremely well done fights. For all the weaknesses in the plot, the fights definitely make up for it. It's not a masterpiece but a low budget gem with well paced and frequent battles with multiple weapons and styles. Check it out.
