This film gives you a life lesson: do not travel to Southeast Asia if your grandfather was a philandering murder. Karma, in the form of black magic curses, will bite you on the ass. Literally. And on the hands. The chest. Anywhere really. So best avoid. This is a weird little film. Three quarters light-hearted family jaunt mystery featuring many scenes of characters who seem unfamiliar with the concept of having human conversations and quarter black magic gross-out movie. For the latter there’s your there’s flying chicken skeletons, spirit centipedes, magic pendants, weird blue body lumps, oozing sores, white vomit, swinging swords, chanting, bone drums, snake bites, melted dead child chin and of course vast swathes of ugly wrigglies. For the former there’s going out for dinner while your sister is dying, saying ‘well that’s over with’ when you tell someone else that she has now died, chasing a person walking away with questions because you didn’t ask them at the appropriate time and awkwardly asking strangers if they knew that village that burnt down where everyone died. And then more inappropriately timed dates and dinners. The actors truly went above and beyond with letting the centipedes wiggle all over them with their gross millions of legs and weirdly armoured segments and slimy antenna bits. Extra kudos has to Margaret Lee though; she has one scene where she’s vomiting them up and they are clearly coming out from inside her mouth. Urgh. Metaphorical balls of steel on that lady. The Mixed Genre Fix 2026 Creatures & Critters
This was certainly not the shocking and gross-out horror film I was led to believe it was. Maybe that because I’m not repulsed by centipedes? In fact, I think they’re pretty cool little creatures. They’re like armored worms with feet and lots of them can get pretty big! I’ve always loved insects and arachnids so I’m never that uncomfortable whenever they’re used in a horror film.Though that doesn’t really matter, because for a film call Centipede Horror there’s very little centipede horror. Those little buggers claim s couple of victims early into the film and dip until the climax starts revving up. I was surprised by how little centipedes are actually used in this film, that’s it’s whole selling point! The scenes of them killing people are fun, just lots of centipedes crawling over panicking victims. The effects used for the cursed centipede bites are nice and grotesque, with lots of pus and sickly greens used. But most of this is just the main character trying to deduce what’s going on. It’s not necessarily boring, but it’s just so whatever. This film feels so stretched and padded which is weird for a ninety minute film. Maybe it’s my headache making this a bigger hassle that it was, but so much of this felt pointless. Not to say it’s devoid of weird shit. I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention the scene where a priest uses his two invisible ghost kids to help him strip a cursed women nude, kill a chicken, have the ghosts enter her body through her mouth and vagina to battle the curse, then help her as she vomits a bunch of blood and scorpions. Plus the second half has much more wizard battles and babies cooked well done so it at least picks up eventually. Needed more centipedes.
It’s very poisonous and deadly like a femme fatale!Curses, sorcerers, centipedes, oh my! Error_4444 went above and beyond announcing my number one release of 2022 of their boxset consisting of both Red Spell Spells Red and Centipede Horror, a set full of so much information, comic book(!!) versions of both movies and restorations that any genre fan would be pleased to own and I can proudly say Error has absolutely done it again, the thing is downright sexy! Their CAT III black magic offering is nothing short of a gross-out HK horror flick, even if it takes abit to really get going and focuses more on vengeful evil wizard sorcery than squirmy bug nastiness—they saved the best for the last! it’s still a damn fine piece of bugsploitation cinema. Release the centipedes you fools!I have to give credit where credit is due, there are some seriously visually daunting scenes that made my skin and my entire being crawl— bug movies are my ultimate weakness! Centipede Horror is purely a film that aims to disgust with its vile bug action and its infamous nauseating regurgitation scene of our leading woman vomiting live centipedes. a mandatory watch for anyone that fancies when-bugs-attack movies and wizard vs. spellcaster black magic voodoo showdowns with animated chicken skeletons. never goes full-blown The Boxer’s Omen or Hex but the whole thing is just wildly entertaining and Margaret Lee is the real MVP. Side note: watched the animal cruelty free version. thnx Error! 🐛
