Intoxicating mood-piece about two young but not that young girls drifting around the small town where they grew up and remain, living a life that's probably exactly like the one they lived in high school. A lot of bong-hits in parked cars and coke bumps at depressing house parties, as well as tender moments of fleeting togetherness and ordinary moments walking through forests, swimming in the creek, hanging out on a boat, etc. Scenes accumulate but don't follow any typical arc, and the major plot points are understated and mostly happen off-screen. Captures a complex, wistful feeling I associate with childhood - of afternoons that seem to stretch to infinity because there are no obligations and nothing to do, but also the frustration of not being able (or knowing how) to go anywhere or do anything. A very special movie.
