83/100Freaks and Geeks saved my life.I've written about the show quite a few times now, but I've found comfort and solidarity in Freaks and Geeks then anything else out there. I discovered the show on a particularly lonely day in my Sophomore Year of High School- wanting to find comfort in anything. I've had anxiety problems since I've been in middle school and I was a very sensitive kid. I always compared myself to the people around me and this led to stretches of my life where I was hard on myself. I still go through these stretches of time today. Discovering this show was a miracle because it led me to realizing that I wasn't alone on this journey.I related to Sam in the way that I felt a lot younger then the people around me at school. I was actually older because I was sick as a kid and started school late, yet, there was always an innocence to me that would have me dismissed a lot by my peers, like Sam is in the show. Yet, I have a lot of Lindsey in me as well. In High School, I went through a period where I decided to hang out with the burn outs and those were good times in my life as well. I went through that time period where my perspective on life started to change and my views on things started to change as well. I think this show perfectly captured that strange time in adolescence where your whole life shifts and you start to see things differently. This show embraces the awkward, sad, scary and riveting parts of growing up and the human condition in general. It's a show that shows me that even the weirdest freaks in this are still people that we should see with warmth and compassion. They have something to contribute to this world.This documentary is wonderful. It's a good little extra to watch after Freaks and Geeks and being a die hard fan of the show- I tear up every time I listen to Paul Feig and Judd Apatow talk about how they made the show and write their own experiences into it. I'm currently in the process of taking my own life experiences and thoughts and putting them down on paper so to see the creative process of that here is just simply inspiring. I love this documentary- but more importantly I love this show. When I first watched it, it reflected my life in a profound way. When I went back to revisit the show over quarantine- it was a nostalgic look at what my life once was. It was quite frankly a very melancholy watch. While I was miserable through stretches of my High School career, there was an innocence to it I miss and will never get back.At least I have this show- a good reflection of the best and worst aspects of my adolescence.
