I first read of David Wojnarowicz's story in the book The Lonely City by Olivia Laing. A month later, I watched an excerpt of In The Shadow Of Forward Motion and the story still stays vividly. When morality is used to condemn, it is through the values of the culture that we see what exactly it is condemning. When people appear to speak for morality, it is at the forefront of their morality where the war appears to take place. And the sinners? The insane? They see what they don't. We now see what they don't. If we ever do get through this let us be, by the symbols of our times and the chattering of our teeth and the food in our mouths and the opera of our dear restless spirits, let us be moving.
