a wonderful film about nostalgia, about missed life chances, about wrongly reanimated hope, about how people are complicated and messy, about how to survive with old school modesty in these narcissistic times, about the question what remains of you at the end. a small NYC indy with dignity and grace. Greta Lee is killing it as hysterical actress with bipolar issues. Willem Dafoe man, no words needed. an intimate gem absurdly absent in any talks at the lido - possibly my favorite of the festival so far.

Really enjoyed this. Lot of ideas to chew on. Authenticity in art, commodification, and the new NYC vs the old. No fireworks or gut punches here, but that’s right for this story.

Singapore International Film Festival 2025 Film #11‎You ever sit through a movie and walk out feeling absolutely nothing? Like it didn’t make any changes in you or any particular feelings were received. that was my experience here.‎The story itself deals with poetry, missed chances, nostalgia, and the weight of an unlived life. Usually these themes present some natural emotional charge, yet this movie explores these themes in such a distracted, detached manner that there is nothing that actually draws me. It simply floats by with no interest or demand upon the audience. There is no emotional engagement, nothing to be connected to, everything is presented with a sort of emotional detachment.‎‎While the film included a lot of things that could be thought-provoking it left me feeling as though they were simply thrown at me instead of creating any sort of feeling of being deeply involved or reflective. The film points out things the filmmakers felt were worthy of satire, but with so many different items that were covered by the film, none of the items were truly covered in detail. It ends that it still doesn’t seem sure of what it wants to be.
