Maybe this disgusting drink is the gateway to the film and to it's hidden anti-Franco filmed in Spanish message as we start of with this general practitioner doctor who does a lot of X-ray work cuts out images of women from fashion magazines but is single in an empty home but has a nurse. Things unfold as he falls for his friends wife and tries to make his nurse in her image. Honestly I am gonna cut it there cause this is a very dry and relies on your own inference to the material and I think Carlos Suara is a director that should be left to personal interpretation much like Yorgos Lanthimos films cause there is a lot of unique disturbing without being vulgar here so it can be watched by most ages but you can feel this undercurrent of filth. So I'm gonna go into some spoiler territory in this "Vertigo" like thriller but I'll page it down fore those who care. So SPOILERPersonally I think Suara is painting our lead Julien(played brilliantly by José Luis López Vázquez) as a stand in for Francisco Franco who wanted to repaint his control of Spain much like Julien does with Ana (Geraldine Chaplin) to look like a fancy aristocrat Elan(also played by Geraldine Chaplin) and personally I can't tell you much of Spanish history(in fact really nothing so take my inferred nature with a grain of salt) but him killing his friend and infatuated beauty was pushing out other countries and Ana(In this case being Spain) helping him do so while showcasing him a lonely vein man trying to control his many houses that are left unkempt and in detritus but cleaning to the past of a golden era and forcing others to go with him. Hmm... this sounds familiar but I can't put my peppermint thumb on it;) Oh and I definitely had to sit on this film so I know it's a hard watch!
