Whenever someone tells me they’re a fan of my grandpa, most of the time they’ll tell me their favorite movie of his is SAME TIME, NEXT YEAR. This surprises me. Cuz this movie is far from his most well known. In fact, I it seems most people don’t know this movie even exists. But there seems to be a little cult following for this flick. This was one of the last movies of my grandpa’s that I had seen. And I probably would never had seen it if so many people hadn’t told me it was their favorite of my grandpa’s. But I really like this movie! It’s pretty melodramatic, with a very corny opening montage, but I adore the fast paced script. It’s extremely simple in its direction, but I liked it like that. Both my grandpa and Burstyn give great performances (it surprised me they were able to maintain good chemistry onscreen). I’m usually a sucker for a movie that focuses on a character or characters who age throughout the years, so this film was pretty up my alley!
