Messy effects meet messy scriptI really like this one in theory (love vampires, love a siege film), but in execution the third act (which is set up to be the most fun of all) comes off a bit scattershot and rushed. Most of the vampires die like absolute morons, which kinda undermines the stakes (heh)Speaking of the vampires I wanted to spend a little more time getting to know them (including a very cool-looking Daniel Bernhardt, he of John Wick and The Matrix Reloaded and that one really kick-ass episode of "Barry" where he has no lines), but they're underdeveloped and underutilized (and why cast Bernhardt if you're not gonna let him do any Bernhardt stuff?)The good: The gore is practical and gnarly and worth the price of admission on its own. The design of the vampires is also practical, and the teeth are more akin to the shark-like vamps of 30 Days Of Night than your typical fangs. The cast is stacked with horror veterans (Olwen Fouéré of Texas Chainsaw 2022, Camille Sullivan of Shelby Oaks, and Summer H. Howell from Night Of The Reaper and the upcoming Flanagan "Carrie"). And the story is very "last 15 minutes of Halloween (2018)" in a good way.Worth a watch! Saw at BeyondFest with an enthusiastic crowd, which helped.
