Ο Τζέρι επιστρέφει από ένα ταξίδι στο σπίτι του, όμως η γυναίκα του απουσιάζει. Λίγο αργότερα η σύζυγός του Λούσι κάνει θεαματική είσοδο με τη συνοδεία… του δάσκαλου φωνητικής. Με την αμφιβολία της απιστίας να έχει τρυπώσει για τα καλά στη ζωή του ζευγαριού, ο Τζέρι και η Λούσι αποφασίζουν να χωρίσουν. Οι δυο τους θα αρχίζουν να αναζητούν νέους ερωτικούς συντρόφους, χωρίς όμως να βρίσκουν το ιδανικό ταίρι. Κανένας δεν κάνει το βήμα για επαναπροσέγγιση κι κάπως έτσι θα αρχίσει μια σειρά από ξεκαρδιστικές παρεξηγήσεις.
