The Condor Daughter

TIFF ‘25 #6Possibly the prettiest TIFF debut this year, The Condor Daughter is the realist (and humanist) piece I needed at the festival. Reminds me of late-style Kiarostami, which is a big compliment coming from me. Few pacing issues, especially in its first act, but very much worth seeing for the acting and nighttime cinematography alone.

The film follows a young woman from an Andean indigenous community who balances the preservation of ancient songs passed down by her mother with a personal desire to become a musician in the modern city.
It was directed by Bolivian filmmaker Álvaro Olmos, known for his exploration of contemporary Andean identity.
The story takes place in a rural indigenous community high in the Andes before moving to an urban environment.
