Possibly the greatest approximation ever — something that's been chased after for a couple of decades at least — of a 1986-ish Amblin movie, but with its own earnest, darkly absurd sensibility. Satisfyingly squishy, genuine POLTERGEIST vibes. Great movie dog. Hope you like split diopter shots. There's no way this didn't spend some time in development as a CLOVERFIELD installment.
David Robert Mitchell delivers a personal and original sci-fi survival dinosaur movie with THE END OF OAK STREET that feels like classic Amblin Entertainment. The fantastic production design completely sells the time period, while Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor deliver two strong, capable, performances as parents desperately trying to keep their family together as the world around them falls apart. It has its fair share of silly moments, and I certainly question the moral ethics of its ending, but overall, this was a fun, nostalgic, and well-paced thrill ride that blows every one of the “Jurassic World” movies out of the water for its dinosaur action and grounded, relatable emotion.
