Everybody’s Into Weirdness ChallengeFilm 6/34 - a film by Larry Fessenden I’ve seen Larry Fessenden pop up as an actor in quite a few horror films, but I somehow never managed to see a film he directed. This kinda blew me away.A group of drilling company employees at an Alaskan outpost are about to start digging a well that will totally change the landscape when they start to succumb to a mysterious force that totally changes them. I really enjoyed this. I’m certain the story was at least influenced by The Thing with its isolated frozen setting and at the beginning it reminded me so much of that movie that I thought it was going to be a rip-off. Luckily, this one goes in a different direction and stands very well on its own.The direction is steady, the camerawork is superb, and the atmosphere is really haunting. Visually, it’s a very beautiful movie even if the subject matter is not. Everything in this alludes to the dangers of global warming and it seems possibly more relevant today than it was 11 years ago when it came out. The cast is aces. James Le Gros, Connie Britton, Kevin Corrigan all do a great job and nobody plays a dick you love to hate like Ron Perlman, amiright? He delivers that ham sandwich with all the damn cheese you want.I know it’s a good film when I immediately want to rewatch it as soon as the credits roll and that’s exactly how I felt when this was over. I plan to rewatch it soon, but first I’m going to dive right into another Fessenden film (and then maybe another) because discovering this was like getting a piece of the pie except I have no self control and I want the whole damn thing.
