Score : 6.1/10 ✅Seen at Fantasia International Film Festival 2026Very cute but too uneventful for me.There's nothing easy about the process of living with social exclusion and isolation. Especially if it means that the things that are considered conflictual are, paradoxically, also a fundamental part of you. In Shin Su-won's The Mutation, platonic friendship and emotional recovery prompts the question if sharing 2 straight days with a stranger can be that valuable. To a certain extent, yes it does, mainly because there are (small) moving progress and yet, it also feels like none of that matters, well other than the last 10 minutes together. A movie like this would have worked a bit better for me if their real-world connection had bigger (or at the very least, more meaningful) erupting moments of mutual assistance, because the film feel melancholic in its themes yet very sweet in its presentation. It's a weird mix, that's for sure, but I think it didn't work well here.
