“If all TV were like Buzz, your head would explode. It was like a visual assault” Visually creative (and thematically-relevantly-rebellious, also!) documentary about an ahead-of-its-time underappreciated aspect of MTV's history. Suffers a bit from padding its runtime (a solid 70-80min doc extended 20mins with too much pre-debut fluff)
Watching this for work related to Antenna Releasing and the film and art installation this Saturday.www.instagram.com/p/DbHRrg7D6gs/?igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==I remember seeing at least a few episodes of the show on Sunday evenings before 120 Minutes. I was around 13 and big on MTV in this era, but especially the specialty stuff: Buzz, Liquid Television, 120 Minutes, and Headbanger's Ball. It would be a few years before I really got into EBN and Negativland, but this MTV era definitely sparked that kind of interest. This doc is cut in a style that honors the show, and it tells the story through tangential structure, just the way the show told its stories. Looking forward to the event!(Also watched the Analog Ecstasy mini-doc)
