How I know this is Gregg Araki's first movie: it takes a full hour for someone to use the word 'fuckhead.'This certainly isn't his best film, but it is a beautifully shot and deliberately understated document of LA's performance and video art scenes. I know Araki is always viewed as being a New Queer Cinema director, but this fits perfectly with the spate of gay indies that were popping up at the time -- Abuse, Kamikaze Hearts, Parting Glances, Sparkles Tavern (shot in '75, released in '84), etc.

"I'm twenty-five years old and I have no fucking idea where I'm going."Yet another decades-old gem languishing in VHS limbo, though since this was a $5,000 student film (Araki told me once that despite being a USC student, he would regularly sneak onto the UCLA campus in order to use their freely available and apparently unsupervised editing equipment) no permits or permissions were involved in its production. The task of music clearance alone - if approached head on - is virtually insurmountable. Needs someone willing to ride dirty (or safely indemnify) on the rights. UCLA Film & Television Archive's semi-recent restoration (screened in February 2011) needs to be seen, especially since the only other way to see this is through a Japanese-subtitled VHS-rip.
