Tiger might be the most 'informative' film that I've seen in recent times that isn't a documentary. I knew a bit about how conservative Japan (still) can be towards the LHBTQ+ community, but Tiger provided me with more information on that. All the things that these people must do to hide their identity from their families just to fulfill the picture perfect of an ideal family left me a bit depressed. Fortunately there are organisations that, for example, help arrange marriages between gay men and woman so they can act to the outside world that they are happy together, but still can live their actual lifes and engage in a relationship they really want. The movie it self is filled with good acting performances, with Tiger being the real star. The arc he goes through with his own dreams and the harsh demanding reality of his family was an interesting one to watch. Tiger is another highlight of this years Camera Japan Festival.
