Get your cultural taboo bingo card, because United Trash hits them all. There's a Forbidden Zone vibe and a Pink Flamingos mentality. Everyone is crazy and everything is gross. Even the most jaded weirdo should find something here to offend them. I totally understand that these are metaphors, but it was a little too much even for me.United Trash is an obscene art film that somehow masquerades as a mainstream madcap comedy. It's just baffling. Someone raised the money for this, someone convinced people to be in it, and someone distributed it in hopes of making money. Director Christoph Schlingensief, who died at the age of 49 in 2010, is remembered as a genius. I imagine those accolades aren't a result of United Trash, but I'm happy anytime an artist finds an audience who appreciates them.
