if it was the end of the world why shouldn’t we go down laughing?never thought i’d be saying this about a 4:47:59 long movie, but i would be fine if it were even longer. can truly say this is one of the most beautiful films i’ve ever seen, Wim Wenders captures perfectly how we’d follow anyone we love enough to the end of the world and back.
felt immediately transported. the typical wim wenders road movie stuff in the beginning is so exhilarating and then it just keeps going places... frankly lost me a little bit in act 2 (i watched on 2 separate blu-ray discs, with several hours in between) but then the dreams... and the addiction... woof. this film can feel so terrestrial even when it gets extremely sci-fi and eventually ends up in outer space. also... i didn't expect the most haunting and realest thing about this to be claire celebrating her 30th birthday over what is essentially a zoom call. very possibly might be me later this year. if it was the end of the world, why shouldn't we go down laughing?
Wim Wenders and I just went around the world in 280 minutes. I wish I could articulate how remarkably, boundlessly, unusually human I feel now that the trip is over. Would recommend for a Friday night in.
