Another exciting instalment of Important Cinema Club Masterpiece Classics, the screening series I host with Justin Decloux at the Fox Theatre. We wanted to show a film by the Ramsay Brothers - the kings of Bollywood horror - and I’m so glad we went with this one. What an entertaining movie. So much stuff, all of it fun. I had seen and liked it before, but it’s a whole new experience seeing it in a theatre, just being assaulted with fun for 130 minutes. I’m happy we had a good turnout from the Indian diaspora, including several people who told us they grew up watching this movie!I won’t pretend this movie isn’t long and a bit repetitive in the second half, but I’m not complaining. I love cake, so I will keep having slices of cake, please.

I was very moved by a few people coming up to me after the screening we hosted at The Fox theatre to tell me it was surreal to see this film in a cinema because they watched it hundreds of times as a kid on VHS.
