Joe Johnston is an American director and visual effects artist who transitioned from a background in technical film production at Industrial Light and Magic to helming major studio feature films.
He is recognized for directing effects-driven cinema such as Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, The Rocketeer, Jumanji, and Marvel's Captain America: The First Avenger, in addition to his early design work on the original Star Wars trilogy.
He began his career as a visual effects artist and concept designer, contributing significantly to the look of vehicles and props in the original Star Wars films before making his directorial debut in 1989.
