BaBa ZuLa

The masters of 21st-century Turkish psychedelic music play their own compositions with such a heavy dose of improvisation that each performance is very different from the last. Born in 1996 in Istanbul, BaBa ZuLa consists of founding members Levent Akman, Murat Ertel, as well as percussionist Ümit Adakale and vocalist Esma Ertel. In addition to them, there is a 5th member, which can range from Veys Colak to Olcay Bozkurt on bass guitar or Periklis Tsoukalas. BaBa ZuLa goes to great lengths to give their fans a unique live show experience. Their ritualistic performances are a mix of artistic disciplines, often featuring belly dancers, elaborate costumes, poetry and theater. Through Eastern instruments such as darbuka, electric saz, spoons with electronics and modern sounds and Turkish retro drum machines, BaBa ZuLa creates a sound they started all by themselves called İstanbul Psychedelia.
