Mahler 5
Conductor Bernard Haitink and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra have gained world fame for their interpretations of Gustav Mahler’s symphonies. In memory of Haitink, who died in 2021, the orchestra appoints a young conductor every two years to assist the chief conductor of the Concertgebouw Orchestra. Camerata RCO, the chamber orchestra consisting of orchestra members, now performs Mahler’s Fifth Symphony in a version for small chamber orchestra conducted by this great talent. Michael Gieler, artistic director of IJ-Salon: ‘This programme came about rather naturally: Camerata RCO with its thought-provoking interpretations of Mahler for chamber orchestra and a new yet-to-be-appointed conductor who will get to follow in Bernard Haitink’s footsteps. All this simultaneously with the great Mahler Festival at the Concertgebouw. The performance will offer a close-up view of Mahler’s immense love for Alma.’
