An underground contemporary jazz night.
Originally from Christchurch, New Zealand, bassist and composer Hamish Smith has emerged as a dynamic voice in contemporary jazz, recognized for his rhythmic inventiveness and groove-driven approach. Now based in New York City, he has built an international career touring and recording with prominent artists such as Paquito D’Rivera and Miguel Zenón. Hamish’s musical foundation began early, studying multiple instruments before discovering the bass at age eleven. After establishing himself as a prominent figure in the New Zealand jazz community, he moved to New York in 2018 to study at the Manhattan School of Music. He now performs with various acclaimed groups and leads his own ensemble, bringing a fresh perspective to the New York jazz scene.
