With Echoes of Mesopotamia, Duygu Alkan takes you on a musical journey through the rich traditions of Turkey, Greece, and Anatolia — but also shares new, contemporary pieces where improvisation plays a key role. Her music blends the old and the new, the familiar and the unexpected. She sings in Turkish, Kurdish, and Greek, weaving together the sounds of cultures that have long shared stories, melodies, and emotions. For Duygu, music is more than performance — it’s a way to connect. To show the deep cultural roots of Anatolia, yes — but also to remind us how much we have in common, how music can build bridges instead of highlighting our differences. Originally from Izmir, Turkey, Duygu moved to the Netherlands in 2017 to study at Codarts, the conservatory in Rotterdam, where she graduated in 2019. Before that, she studied Classical Ottoman music at the State Conservatory for Turkish Music at Ege University. She’s had the honour of recording two albums with some of her most inspiring mentors, including Derya Türkan, Cenk Erdoğan, and Coşkun Karademir.
