Don Preston is an American jazz and rock keyboardist, composer, and pioneering synthesist best known as a founding member of Frank Zappa’s Mothers of Invention. He studied piano, played in the Army band with Herbie Mann, and emerged from Detroit's jazz scene before joining Zappa in 1966. A pioneer in electronic music, he has scored over 20 films, performed with artists ranging from John Lennon to Carla Bley, and continues to compose and perform.
