In this new trio, Mary Aygetsy collaborates with violist Alkistis Misouli and pianist Joy Shechter, both active performers in the Netherlands and across Europe. The trio works with Armenian folk songs as a starting point rather than a fixed form. Through improvisation, close listening, and attention to texture and space, Alkistis and Joy expand the songs’ harmonic and rhythmic landscape, allowing each performance to develop differently while remaining anchored in Mary’s vocal tradition. The result is a flexible and evolving interpretation of Armenian folk material, shaped collectively in the moment.
