Roberto de Oliveira 4tet
An uplifting, nostalgic samba-jazz night.
A tribute to the legendary Brazilian trombonist Raul de Souza (1934-2021), a major figure in samba jazz. This concert celebrates a musician who profoundly influenced Brazilian jazz with his sense of groove and improvisation. A disciple and heir to this tradition, Roberto de Oliveira extends this spirit through vibrant music where samba jazz engages in a dialogue with contemporary composition. A virtuoso trombonist, he also asserts himself as a composer, arranger, and multi-instrumentalist, developing a personal and expressive musical language. Born in Fortaleza and based in Lille since 2009, Roberto de Oliveira draws his inspiration from the music of Northeast Brazil, which he infuses into the aesthetics of samba jazz. His trombone playing, by turns lyrical and rhythmic, reveals a unique musical identity, rooted in Brazilian tradition and open to jazz improvisation.
