Kwaku Summer Festival
What started 51 years ago as a football tournament for the neighbourhood has now been a grand celebration of the identity of the Zuidoost district for years. The Nelson Mandela Park will be the scene of dance, music, film, food and of course football for four weekends. The festival is mainly known for its atmosphere and in addition to football there are many other activities such as debates, lectures, dance workshops, beauty contests and music performances. On the penultimate Sunday in July, Kwaku turns pink. Pink Sunday is known as one of the most extravagant days of the Kwaku Summer Festival, where everyone is welcome for a cultural spectacle. Pink Sunday is part of Queer & Pride Amsterdam.
