AMSTERDAM | Yerai Cortés
“Yerai Cortés makes his guitar sound like a full orchestra,” wrote Dutch newspaper _de Volkskrant_ after his impressive debut at the Flamenco Biënnale Nederland 2023. Now, the virtuoso returns to the Netherlands for a solo recital celebrating his recently released debut album: _La guitarra flamenca de Yerai Cortés_. Cortés is one of the leading talents of a new generation of flamenco guitarists. His style is rooted in the classical _gitano_ tradition, passed down by his father and first teacher. With his unique _soniquete_ (swing), he makes the flamenco guitar tradition, _el toque_, both contemporary and timeless. Cortés isn’t afraid to push beyond the boundaries of flamenco: he has collaborated with Cameroonian bassist Richard Bona and toured major Spanish arenas with rapper C. Tangana. That collaboration also led to a documentary, titled _La guitarra flamenca de Yerai Cortés_, which will be screened during the festival.
