Black Chariot

An atmospheric, slow-burn horror.

Chilling and uncanny, we follow three young men in their attempt to retrieve a red case that harbours a horrifying secret. But they are not alone in these woods and cannot even trust one another—not the girl they've taken hostage, nor the puppet master who lured them here. They are all alone in the dark, except for a 1957 Black Wolseley 15/50 that prowls silently in the night. Do not look into its red headlights...

Let’s Go For a Relaxing Ride in the CountryBritish Horror Studio again impresses me with their economy of film making. This movie is one lonely forest track, a classic car, and about seven actors and it makes a really good psychological thriller out of it. Megan Tremethick plays the ghost lady who moves in such an unnerving way like a marionette whose strings are tangled. My back hurts watching that. Laurence R Harvey is what if Sidney Greenstreet and Peter Lorre were the same person. They were my two favorite characters and sadly weren’t in the movie nearly enough. Megan Tremethick should have been in the background of every scene just haunting the entire movie. Novarro Ramon, Sam Barclay, and Dorian Todd are our three hapless guys landed in the middle of the haunted woods. They do a great job as three separate characters so you never get muddled who is who. The car looks amazing, they don’t get to do a ton with it for obvious reasons it is a museum piece. This is a fun little brain melter of a movie shot all in black and white giving it a real 50s feel to it. It doesn’t feel like a modern movie aping old time movie making with fake film grain or fake VHS tracking but with a modern feel. This does a great job of being an old time movie and does it with a minimum of budget and resources which is a real accomplishment. Horrors of 2026 - 88

This is a compelling black-and-white supernatural film. The concept evokes a 1960s Twilight Zone episode with a touch of Alfred Hitchcock.

I may have been out crowdfunding again (more of these this weekend).I had a lovely time with this horror melodrama. The acting worked well for me, with the whole cast playing to the back rows. It looks great in crispy black and white and has some terrific sound editing. I love that this little British studio is putting out new versions of those horrors that I'd watch late at night as a kid and give myself nightmares for a week. Some funny bits.
