A total disservice to Kafka . Not even a personal take on it . When a film does so much lesser than the literature on its subject and even lesser than simply the millions letters Kafka wrote , that already exist in public domain . It’s an utter disappointment . The film is more about the film’s director than the subject. More about the mythologising of how Max Brody’s relationship with him than the actuality of it. Even if that was the intention , the filmmaker lost me. It could be because I am too close too the subject. Or maybe I have loved the filmmaker’s previous works too much . Maybe we all suffer from it.
Conceived as a kaleidoscopic mosaic, the film follows the imprint Franz Kafka left on the world from his birth in 19th-century Prague to his death in post-WW1 Vienna.
