Happy Holidays

A grounded, ensemble drama.

What people say

Have never heard a collective gasp like the one that followed the director saying no one in the film was an actor, they were all scouted at their real professions (doctors! lawyers! an Arab student in Jerusalem) to play exactly that, while only ever knowing what their scenes were (not the full script). They acted better than I’ve ever seen. One unforgettable sequence takes place during a real ceremonial drill in Jerusalem that only happens twice a year. Incredibly brave and well done. Free Palestine.

An Arab gets a Jewish girl pregnant and wants to have her abort (just like her sister) to avoid problems with the conservative family while the man's sister tries to hide her wild life.Through an elaborate structure inspired by the now classic "Rashomon", the film stages the ever intense confrontation between two communities, the Arab and the Jewish, who share the same country, namely Israel. A community that, according to its beliefs, should remain united to face the adversities of its enemies by trusting an army that does not let anyone die, but that in reality does not even know how to free itself from the hypocrisy that surrounds its members, as well as the morality and the blind duty that they follow and respect unconditionally. What we are witnessing is also an ideological struggle between an old and a new generation in which the former is unable to tolerate the freedoms and choices of the latter. A deep-rooted system that should therefore be shaken from its foundations and in which walking with head held high, despite the humiliations suffered, is the best possible form of rebellion and emancipation.
